Congratulations to the winning bidders!
We would like to thank both bidders and consignors for a very successful sale!"GENERAL WASHINGTON" / BUST OF WASHINGTON - "E PLURIBUS UNUM" / EAGLE / "T.W.D - ADAMS & JEFFERSON / JULY 4 A.D. 1776 - KENSINGTON GLASS / WORKS PHILADELPHIA" Historical Flask, Kensington Glass Works, 1826 - 1835. Light-to-medium bluish emerald coloration, sheared mouth - pontil, Pt, near mint; (a ½", in-manufacture, pontil flake extends to the base edge, a trace of faint wear, and a weak impression in the shoulder as is often the case with this mold). GI-14.
A delicate, pretty color, and one of the most historical of all the figured flasks. The GI-14 mold, is aptly nicknamed the "Firecracker" flask. On July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after their signing of the Declaration of Independence, former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died within five hours of each other. This flask commemorates these two Presidents, this event, as well as George Washington, the American eagle, and the glassmaker, Thomas W. Dyott.
