The grading of antique cameras as to condition is a very subjective matter. We do not use terms like Mint minus or Excellent plus and the like. In order to bring some standardization to the process we have decided to adopt the McKeown’s / PCCGB grading system. This is fully described in “McKeown’s Price Guide to Antique & Classic Cameras”. Please bear in mind that earlier cameras will be graded for cosmetic condition only. Later cameras will include functional, as well as cosmetic condition, this will be indicated after each lot, in parenthesis i.e. (Grade 5F). If you have any questions regarding condition, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail.

Beautiful wood & brass stereoscopic field camera by Meagher, London circa 1880’s. The bellows are square cut maroon leather in excellent condition. The focusing method is by a handle at the back of the camera, with fine focusing adjusted by the rack and pinion knobs on the lenses. The lenses are unmarked but have the original lacquer, as do the brass lens caps. The camera features a tilting back for architectural work. The focusing screen measures 8.5” x 6.5” (whole plate). The internal septum is present and one plate holder is included in the lot. There are minor signs of use (grade 4), overall very good to excellent condition. $ 1,700
“Le Franceville” pinhole novelty camera, France circa 1910. Condition is very good (grade 4). This is one of the examples where the back of the camera is more interesting than the front. $ 110
Scarce, very large Guerry pneumatic flap shutter, circa 1883. The internal air bag has dried out, so while you can see how the shutter operates, it will not work properly until the internal rubber bag has been replaced. The outside dimensions of the wood are 7.75” x 7.25”. Overall very good condition. Designed to fit over a lens 5” to 6” in diameter. Refer Coe, page 201 for an illustration of and more information on Guerry shutters. $ 10
Thornton Pickard roller blind shutter to fit over a lens approximately 1 5/8” in diameter. Excellent working condition. $ 40
Wynne’s “Infallible” exposure meter in the original tin box, circa 1890’s. Complete with original instructions. The dial and original instructions are in German. Excellent condition. Refer Coe, page 219 for an illustration and more information on this meter. $ 55
Scarce French J. Decoudin “Photometre”, circa 1897. Excellent condition in the original box. Refer Coe, pages 214/215 for an illustration and more information. $ 250
Scarce “Pocket Sunshine Lamp” circa 1925. Actually a magnesium ribbon holder, looking almost like a 1920’s cigarette case. A few marks on the case exterior, overall very good to excellent condition. Refer Coe, pages 226/227 for an illustration and more information. $ 40
Early ruby colored darkroom oil lamp with lamp with double glass chimneys. The adjustment allows the light to be varied in addition to adjusting the wick. Excellent condition. $ 500
