3. DRAKES / PLANTATION / BITTERS - PATENTED / 1862, (wide mouth jar), (Ring/Ham, D-105), New York, ca. 1862 - 1875, deep reddish topaz, 6-log cabin, 9 3/8h, smooth base, hand tooled wide mouth.
Perfect condition.
The upper one-half of the bottle has a distinct deformation that occurred during the expansion of the wide mouth. This extremely rare glass house whimsy was 'picked' on the Grand Trunk field at Brimfield in September. 5. STEINFELDS / FRENCH COGNAC / BITTERS - FIRST PRIZE / PARIS / EXHIBITION / (motif profile of a man in a draped oval with a crown) / 1867, The corner panels have a vine and grape cluster embossing, (Ring/Ham, S-186), American ca. 1867 - 1875, amber, 9 3/4h, smooth base, applied tapered collar mouth.
This is a rarely offered dug bottle that when found had a minor overall stain. This has since mostly been professionally removed. Unfortunately a sizable chip off a corner at the base also travels across a base edge.
Since most of this base damage is not very visible (it is on the edge of the label panel) it remains a very desirable bottle still worthy of a good bid.

An in-making divot type chip on a panel edge is where glass extruded through a mould seam. An internal glob of glass has a thin string of glass extending from it.
This is a scarce coloration, quite different from the usually seen amber and the mentioned divot flaw is strictly in the making.

A chip off the inside heel of the base was created when the sizable pontil rod was snapped away. A shallow open surface bubble is on a side panel and some light scum type internal stain is at the base.
Highly whittled glass, full of tiny air bubbles and in a better than normally seen color! This is a scarce mould variant that lacks the horizontal slug plate above the Clarkes embossing. Probably one of the harder to find of the many Clarkes Bitters moulds and the minor in-making flaws are non-offensive. Bob Cole Collection.

Lightly cleaned to its original luster. A 1/4 by 3/16 area of glass roughness is on the inside edge of the lip. A pinhead in size flake is off the edge of a shoulder panel.
When considering the rarity and level of desirability of this color the minor flaws are incidental.

An area of light roughness where a tiny amount of glass extruded through the mould is on the edge of the hair.
This rare figural whiskey bottle is in prime from the glass house condition and was probably produced by the same company that sold the famous Browns Indian Herb Bitters!
