560. THE SALT LAKE COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO RED SEAL BRAND. ABM 7 ½” Crown top. Here’s a later Coke bottle in clear. There is a fairly significant quarter inch chip off the lip but is otherwise very presentable. A little wear and a few scratches make this a grade 3. Est. $50-100. MB $40 $ 40 *
COCA-COLA DENVER. Crown top 8 ¾” This is listed in the Petretti’s Coca-Cola Price Guide on page 403 and was made between 1905-16. Here’s a nice condition soda bottle in a clear glass with some crudity. In addition to the embossing, there is a number “30” near the front base. An outstanding example that easily grades a 7.5. Just a hint of interior stain. Est. $200-400. MB $200 $ 200
COCA-COLA BOTTLING WORKS LOS ANGELES. 8 ½” Tooled crown top “CCBW” on base. Here’s a Coca-Cola that is embossed in script around the base. They come this way with a number of different city names. The location of the embossing also enabled them to scratch and affect condition. This one, however, has very little wear and compared to some we’ve seen is outstanding. Bottle in general grades at least a 6. Est. $100-200. MB $80 $ 160
COCA-COLA SAN FRANCISCO CAL. 8” Tooled top with slight purplish tint. This “Frisco” example is fairly presentable with some wear but overall at least a 6 grade. Est. $100-200. MB $100 $ 240
THE BEST BY A DAM SITE BOULDER PRODUCTS LAS VEGAS NEV. 7½” Petretti-404. These Vegas Cokes have an interesting story, please see our last catalog for more detail. This one is ABM (Automatic Bottling Machine) and is generally a 7 grade despite the wear around the very base. Est. $80-160. MB $40 $ 190
MAYFIELD’S CELERY COLA J.C. MAYFIELD MFG. CO BIRMINGHAM, ALA. 7” Hutchinson style with tooled top. Here we have a scarce offshoot of the cola loved by people and nations around the world. Condition is a little rough but there is some crudity with the scratches and a tiny flake off the lip. It grades a 6+. Est. $100-200. MB $50 $ 220
COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO LAS CRUCES DEMING NEW MEXICO. ABM 8” Here we have a super condition Coca-Cola from the great state of New Mexico. With just a hint of wear near the base and a couple scratches, this one grades a solid 8+. A scarce bottle. Est. $50-100. MB $50 $ 120
PROPERTY OF SALT LAKE COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO REGISTERED (In circle). Petretti-399. Here’s one of a number of Cola bottles from Salt Lake. My gosh! Without beer or other liquor, what else were they going to drink but America’s beverage of choice? This has some wear and a little stain with a tiny ding on the right base of the seam but generally grades a 7. A light cleaning would probably bring it up a grade. Est. $50-100. MB $50 $ 160
SALT LAKE COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO SALT LAKE CITY UTAH. 10” with tooled top. As they used to say to John Wayne, “You are one big drink of water,” I guess you could say that about this cola as it stands higher than all the others in this sale. A brilliant bluish aqua, there is wear around the shoulders and some scratching along with a chip from the very bottom front base. It almost appears to be an open bubble but was probably “clanked” against another bottle. Est. $50-100. MB $40 $ 425
SALT LAKE COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO COCA-COLA SALT LAKE CITY. 8” tooled top. Here’s another Salt Lake Coke. Boy, those people must have really liked Coca-Cola. Pictured Patretti-401. This has an odd shape and some scratches and dullness around the top. There is a natural ping on the back, see video. Est. $50-100. MB $40. $ 210
MILL’S SELTZER SPRINGS. Applied top 1874-85. Here is a gorgeous example of the Mill’s bottle. This has an “M” on the base. The best part of this example is the pure olive-amber striations that run through the top. Also the condition is pretty darn nice as it is loaded with whittle and aside from a couple of scratches would grade an easy 8.5. A very high condition soda. Est. $100-200. MB $70 $ 150
571. DAVY CROCKETT LIQUOR CO ANGELS. Crown-tooled top. It’s apparent that this bottle probably contained beer instead of soda, even though it looks like a soda. There is some wear on a couple of the letters and a few scratches here and there but this generally grades a solid 7. Est. $50-100. MB $40 $ 80
MILL’S SELTZER SPRINGS. Tooled top Hutchinson style. 1874-85. Here is a neat example of the Mill’s bottle. This has an “M” on the base. There is a ½” square area on the back base that has been repaired with resin due to a chip. Otherwise, the condition is very nice as it is loaded with whittle and aside from a couple scratches and damage would grade an easy 8.5. The repair hurts it, though. Est. $50-100. MB $40 $ 150
573. GHIRARDELLI’S BRANCH OAKLAND. Applied top. Here’s a great example of this well-known soda now known as manufacturers of chocolate. With loads of bubbles and a nice medium blue, the only flaw we see is some typical light wear and a minute flake off the backside lip—extremely minor. A very pretty bottle that grades a 7.5. Est. $250-400. MB $200. $ 550
574. PACIFIC CONGRESS WATER with running deer on reverse. Tooled top 6 ½” Here is another example of the Pacific Congress Water, this one having a running deer. There is also an area on the front shoulder where the name “Sage” slugged out. This was due to the fact that other owners used the bottle, as Louis Sage was out of the picture for a few years. For more information on this company, Bryan Grapentine wrote a wonderful article in the summer 2005 Bottles & Extras. Also, refer to Western Blob Top Soda and Mineral Water Bottles by Peck and Audie Markota. At any rate, this has the running deer and is a little stubbier than some we’ve seen. There are a couple areas of minor wear but generally this one grades a solid 8. Est. $200-300. MB $100. $ 130
